Carbon tips

They are just what I wanted.

A suggestion some instruction about fitting would be useful. Eventually I found something on the internet.

Brilliant.

I have used my new poles a few times, culminating with yesterday's Tongariro Alpine Crossing. They actually saved me coming down the loose scree.

Well worth the purchase.

Thank you!

Leki Walking Pole Tip Replacement

These tips are not too hard to replace. First screw off the cup, which is more of a saucer really. Use a shifting spanner or big pliers fitting loosely over the pole section and slide them down the pole to bang the old tip off. The best way to get the new one on is to drill a 16mm hole in a piece of wood, or find a suitable hole in something solid, and use that as a mandrel to hold the top of the tip. Do not push on the tip end or it will bend over and be damaged. Heat the new tip with a heat gun or in hot water and push it on. Tapping the top of the pole section lightly while you push down hard will seat it properly. I used LHM hydraulic fluid as a lubricant because it does not attack rubber; you can get a few drops (used is OK) from a Citroen repair shop. Failing that try K-Y Jelly. Don't use oil or vaseline. I reckon one replacement tip may be enough for one pole; wear in the spring sections could make it a throwaway job next time. On the other hand the new tip is definitely softer than the old one, so it may not last another 15 years. It would have been nice to have instructions with the tip, but Leki has good ones on their website.
