An Excellent Choice for my Eight and Eleven-Year-Old Children

I purchased two Deuter Fox 40 packs for my children for a recent four-week trip around the UK (in winter). Although I live in Australia, I had to purchase the packs from Gearshop in New Zealand. The price was competitive, the service was good, and I was kept up-to-date on the timely delivery progress every step of the way.

These packs were an excellent choice. They are easily adjustable and can be modified quickly to fit two children of different heights. They are available in blue, and in red and by ordering different colours, we avoided luggage mix-ups. The packs weighed between 8 kg and 10 kg when fully packed with clothing. This turned out to be the maximum practical weight for my kids to carry when wearing the packs for successive days for up to 2 hours at a time, so I would advise caution if considering a pack with more litres of storage for younger kids (it's better to favour careful packing and wash clothing frequently in place of carrying extra). We made use of two packing cells per child (purchased from Katmandu in Australia). We had footwear in the base of the pack (and dirty laundry), which can be zipped off from the main body. In the main compartment, the kids had one packing cell for underwear, baselayers and pyjamas and one cell for tops and bottoms. Waterproofs, gloves and hats were fitted in the top lid compartment. We also found room for a cuddly toy in each bag. Dividing the bag up in this way avoided frustration from tired kids as they could…
