It's a heavy large purifier but worth it.

I bought mine in 2016 and it's been flawless. I fill a camel back with a hose adapter so I don't even have to take the bladder out of my pack (but I do have to put my hand on the bag to make sure I don't over fill it).

The most impressive thing for me was filtering the creamy looking glacial water on the Rees-Dart track. It was effortless and the water quality excellent.

Definitely worth the price and great peace of mind.

I've had to do zero maintenance on it so far.

    MSR Guardian..bombproof

I got this filter 2 yrs ago for travel in India and later local use in NZ. The Pros: it is really easy to use, durable, requires minimal maintenance and the filter is seriously good so that even viruses get caught. The Cons: for solo tramping it is a bit on the heavy side and (in NZ) it is perhaps a bit over the top with filtration performance since water borne viruses are not (yet) a big problem. The big con is that it is very expensive. Conclusion: if you have the money, this filter is definitely worth it despite the weight. The performance and reliability are excellent, the maintenance is simple, and filter lasts 10 times longer than a lot of others (and does a better job). If you filter a bit of water do the economics (look at the price of the other replacement filters knowing that you will need to do this 5-10 times before replacing the Guardian filter) then start thinking about the extra maintenance needed for other filters (back flushing).
