Perfect for a fully-equipped comfortable bikepacking adventure

We bought our Blacktail 3 Hotel tent nearly a year ago initially for a 1700 km bike trip in the South Island. The crew at Gearshop were great at guiding through the best solution for our setting. The tent has performed so well in all conditions. It has heaps of room - we even stored our bikes in the vestibule on some occasions. Totally agree that it’s best to buy the extra floor mat to protect against rough ground. We also bought the double Big Agnes Sleeping Matress. The combined weight and size has worked fine for us - an older couple who appreciate the comfort and security provided by the Big Agnes Blacktail 3 Bikepacking tent. We have a few more trips planned this summer and know we’ve bought the right tent for us

Perfect for biking and stacks up in wet weather.

This is a fantastic tent and the perfect set up for bike packing and touring. I’ve had this tent in torrential rain and it’s bombproof. You can even pitch the fly first so your interior stays dry. Great in hot weather with a nice vent design so no am condensation inside. The vestibule is great for cooking In or just keeping out of the sun. Did a lot of research before buying - this tent will last the distance. Also great for taller people with the perfect amount of head room.

Love this tent

This tent is very roomy and spacious with lots of great features and good quality materials. Was a bit short on pegs though so had to buy some more in order to put out the guy ropes to be prepared for possible windy conditions.

Good for general use - untested in an adventure context

We purchased this tent to replace our old Exped. The Big Agnes Blacktail Hotel has a spacious feel, and the vestibule is really generous.

Pros: it’s light and airy, and has good headroom. It’s unobtrusive, which makes it good for bush camping. Plenty of room to store all your gear under cover.

Cons: the tent only comes with 10 pegs, so we had to buy extra pegs to have enough to peg it out. I’d like to have more options for tensioning the fly - it flapped about a bit in gusty wind. I also got a big drip of water down my back when I unzipped the door in the morning…

The tent is fine, and will suit most bike packing camping situations. It’s just not amazing - maybe I’ve been spoiled by my previous tent :)
